The view at Kitsilano Beach Park –home to Kits Pool

Quick! In a blink of an eye, you are just days away from taking a dip in Vancouver’s only salt water pool, located at  Kitsilano Beach Park.

Kitsilano Pool is a wonderfully long pool –great for beginning swimmers, toddlers, families or anyone interested in having a water workout. You may want to spend a few hours here, since after all, it is Canada’s longest pool –at 137 meters, which is three times longer than an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Open from May to mid-September, Kits Pool is also incredibly beautiful to see. As well, it is situated in a picturesque setting, since the pool is framed by the beach and gleaming buildings.

I had an opportunity to take a dip in the pool on several occasions.  Each time I was there, the pool was warm and relaxing and for myself, much too big to swim to the opposite end. But many people do just that –swim back and forth the length of the pool countless times.

Lifeguards are available as well as flotation devices. Change rooms are available with lockers and showers. September 15 is the final day  for swim-lovers who will have to accept that the pool closes until next year. With this week’s forecast promising more sunny days, you may just want to take a dip for the very last time this year and be part of a Vancouver secret.

Nearby, there are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops along Cornwall Avenue that you can go to after a swim at this local favourite pool. Whether your taste is in Indian,  vegetarian, Japanese or pub grub, you are have plenty to choose from.
