Discovering Food Carts at Vancouver Chinatown’s Night Market
by Staff Writer

If you are looking for something fast, delicious and fun, check out Vancouver’s many food trucks which can be find anywhere from the city’s downtown area to the popular Vancouver’s Chinatown Night Market held in the heart of Chinatown. On a recent visit to the night market, the night market was packed with people, checking out everything from hand-made jewelry and home-made ginger toffee, to more traditional Chinese food, like fish balls and dumplings.

Over in the entertainment area, all chairs filled up with enthusiastic people, young and old, listening intently to the speakers and watching entertainers. In the food court, people sat and sampled food from several food carts in the area, selling everything from macaroni and cheese, hotdogs and traditional food from El Salvador.

If you are in the area, you just might meet the affable Dougie Luv, the husky blond-haired owner of the food truck Dougiedog, which offers gourmet hotdogs and said to be excellent.  Luv pitched his hotdog business on the popular television series, Dragons’ Den and since then, his face and his hotdogs are now a familiar sight on Vancouver streets.

Dougie happily agreed to be photographed on a recent visit.

Vancouver offers over a dozen food carts and can be found in various areas of the city. On Burrard street, you will find the always popular Japadog. There’s the Burger Bus on Hornby street and Robson street, and the Aussie Pie Guy at the Burrard hotel.
