Great Things To Do This Summer In Vancouver
by Staff Writer

If you are looking for something to do this summer, get out your pen or smartphone and make a note of some great summer festivals.

1. Check out the 16th annual European Festival held May 25 and 26 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.  You can visit cultural displays from over 30 countries, sample food,  shop at a variety of different vendors, take your children to do free games and activities and listen to all kinds of traditional music and watch folk dances.

There’s also a featured group on Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 430 pm featuring the popular music of  ABBA. If you like the Beatles, a tribute band will perform favourite tunes of the music group on Saturday 830 pm.

For details go to: www.europeanfestival.ca

2. July offers more festivals featuring music and more.

West 4th avenue from Burrard to Macdonald St is cleared of all traffic for the fabulous Khatsahlano Music and Arts Festival, held on July 13.  Billed as one giant free block party, you can catch music from over 50 talented bands, get discounts from shops in the area, and do participate in a variety of activities.  It’s certain to be a popular event with locals as well as visitors. Be sure to take transit if you go, as parking is limited.

3. You won’t want to miss the annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival, held at the beautiful Jericho beach. Held on July 19- 21, you’ll want to go to all three days or schedule an afternoon or evening performance. Over 60 artists are featured, including The Cat Empire, Los Vega, Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars. You’ll be surprised it’s not just folk music. If you want early bird pricing, go to www.thefestival.bc.ca.

4. Try something different. Whether it’s Chinese, Japanese, Italian or Korean food, Vancouver offers  food for every taste and almost every region in the world.

You can sample food, take in traditional Chinese market at the fabulous Chinatown Night market held in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown area, normally on weekends. You may find some great deals on womens’ undergarments, too or a cover for your iphone.
