Fun-tastic Food, Art, Market and Do-nuts Delightful Finds in Portland, Oregon
by Staff Writer

A trip to Portland, Oregon is an adventure for the food-lover, shopper, and art lover. On a recent weekend trip,  we sampled food cart food, browsed at  the  impressive and delightful weekend public  market, and lined up for an hour to sample and amazing do-nut that locals declare is a Portland institution.  At the Voodoo Dough-nut shop, we saw a stready stream of people lining up to take home a wide-variety of goodies to delight all tastes. I wolfed down a do-nut that was topped with maple and a few strips of bacon. My companion loved his glazed do-nut!

Over at the public market, tents and stalls proudly show-cased shiny jewelry, funky hats, stone art, hippie clothing and all kinds of souvenirs.

The food carts are a good choice to go to for a quick and inexpensive meal. We ate a few fish tacos at one food cart vendor, which was a steal at $2 each.  Around the corner from the Do-nut shop, we  enjoyed the calamari gyro that was equally delicious and only $3.

Art was all around us. And in the downtown core, we were mesmerized by the fountain sculpture and a shapely sculpture of a woman.

And for a coffee break, we stopped in at the Purest Cafe, where the friendly shop-keeper Tommy,  enthusiastically prepared a rich and organic brew of java.  The  shop generously offered some healthy organic bars for free to eat.
